Why is a license transfer/merge form needed?
A license transfer or account merge signifies a change in the legal entity responsible for the rights, obligations, and liabilities associated with JetBrains products or accounts. An official JetBrains Transfer Form (either the License Transfer Form for transferring licenses only, or the Transfer and Account Management Form for transferring licenses and merging accounts) is required to formally document this change. The form serves several key purposes:
- It captures the express, written consent of both the original owner (Transferor) and the new owner (Transferee), and it also confirms JetBrains’ approval of the transfer.
- It clearly identifies the specific Products (licenses) and/or JetBrains customer account being transferred.
- It details the undertakings of both the Transferor (e.g. to cease using the products and satisfy any existing obligations) and the Transferee (e.g. to be bound by the applicable agreement).
- It includes any necessary indemnities related to the transfer process.
- It provides a formal record for all parties.
The general License Transfer template must be signed by all parties involved.
